Every great loaf starts with clean, free-flowing flour. Here is why bakeries across the UK trust the Gough Batch Sieve to deliver it.
In a busy bakery, the problems that show up at the mixer often start at the bag. Lumps, bag debris, string, paper and the occasional foreign body all arrive with raw ingredients. If they are not removed before mixing, the result is inconsistent dough, rejected batches and uncomfortable questions at audit time.
Sieving is the simplest, most reliable safeguard a bakery can install. And when it comes to sieving, the Gough Batch Sieve (GBS) has been designed with bakers in mind: built to last, manufactured in the UK and configured around the way your bakery works.

The Gough Batch Sieve is a compact vibratory sieve that removes lumps, conglomerated material, large contaminants and bag debris by particle size. At the same time it aerates the flour, giving you a lighter, more consistent ingredient going into the mix.
A single sealed, energy-efficient vibratory motor drives a smooth vibration that moves product steadily across the screen. Good product passes through; oversize material stays on top for easy removal. The design is especially low in height, so it fits where space is tight and makes bag tipping easier on operators.

Quality in a sieve is about more than the mesh. It is about how the machine performs on shift after shift, how easy it is to clean, and how well it protects your people and your product.
Dust matters in a bakery. The UK Health and Safety Executive classes flour dust as hazardous, and occupational asthma rates among bakers are among the highest of any occupation. A properly enclosed and extracted sieve is one of the most effective ways to keep that dust out of the air.

Gough Engineering has been designing and manufacturing sieving, separating and material handling equipment in the UK for more than 80 years. Every Gough Batch Sieve is built at our works in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire.
Buying British means more than a label on the machine:
A Batch Sieve Rip & Tip station with access steps and handrails, built for Village Bakery.
No two bakeries handle ingredients the same way, so we don't sell a one-size-fits-all sieve. We start with your process, your ingredients and your floor space, then configure the Batch Sieve around them.
Case study: a food manufacturer in Wales. Gough designed a bespoke sieve with a 1 mm aperture stainless steel frame, FDA-compliant bonding materials, a protective hood, a frame for the collection bin, discharge spouts fitted to the existing system, an appropriately rated magnet and quick-release clamps for fast cleaning. The result was a safer sieving process, easier cleaning and consistently high-quality product.

Not sure what you need? Our in-house trials facility lets you test your own ingredients before you buy, and we offer a free two-week machine hire.
Not OK, so you have sieved your flour or bakery ingredients, how do you lift the material up into the mixer? Hand collection bins, working at height. Gough can provide unique solutions using vacuum or aero-mechanical solutions to automatically integrate with the sieve and elevate the material up into the mixers or packing lines. Here's an example delivered to customer in the UK for cleaner environments and safer manual handling - notice the hood is coupled to an LEV de-dusting system.
